Cryptogams Laboratory - LabCripto

The Cryptogams Laboratory of the Department of Botany currently carries out research with bryophytes and lichens.

 

In the bryological part, it is associated with the UB herbarium, which currently has a collection of over 17,000 specimens of bryophytes (Bryophyta, Marchantiophyta and Anthocerotophyta), from all continents and more than 58 countries in the world, being one of the most important collections in the world. Brazil.The laboratory is equipped with 3 microscopes and a magnifying glass coupled to a digital camera and image capture system;It also has 4 computers for phylogenetic analyses.

The lines of research currently funded are five:

​

PROTAX: Taxonomist Training Program funded by CNPq

REFLORA: Brazilian Flora data repatriation program with funding from CNPq, FAPDF and CAPES

PROTRINDADE (Oceanic Islands): CNPq program with support from SECIRM and the Brazilian Navy, to develop research on Trindade Island.

PROANTAR: CNPq program with support from SECIRM and the Brazilian Navy to develop research in Antarctica.

PVE: CNPq Special Visiting Researcher Program (CSF) for “DNA barcoding” studies in bryophytes in Brazil.

 

In addition, the laboratory professors are involved in several other projects such as:

Review of Trichosteleum (Sematophyllaceae) for the Neotropics

Review of Meiothecium (Sematophyllaceae) for the world

Phylogeny of the Sematophyllaceae family

Bryophyte Flora of Fernando de Noronha Island, PE, Brazil.
